B&G Zeus 3 GPS signal

Planning to upgrade an old Raymarine chart plotter which uses an external GPS antenna. Can anyone share their experiences with the internal antenna in the Zeus line of chart plotters? Unit will be mounted in a NavPod at the wheel, under a bimini.

I´ve used a Z3 for four years only using the internal antenna and it works fine.

Thank you to those that answered my question about the Zeus' GPS reception. Any experiences, or issues with integrating Raymarine wind and auto pilot instruments to the Zeus3?

Re: B&G Zeus 3 GPS signal

We have the same mix of data; older wind, speed, and auto pilot instruments over the newer chart plotter. Basically a mix of 0183 data and NMEA 2000 data. We use a NEMO gateway from Rose Point to integrate the data and port it over to the chart plotter as well as porting it to a wireless router which allows us to use wireless devices to see the data.

Note that our auto pilot is not integrated and is standalone; capable of magnetic or wind direction steering but not routes on the chart plotter.

Re: B&G Zeus 3 GPS signal

i would not mount the zeus in a pod. according to the manual you MUST have adequate cooling for the unit (HVAC, forced ambient air, passive ventilation in that order of preference). all of the pods i've seen are completely sealed which is not only unnecessary but may be contributing to the reports of "my zeus is sluggish" or "my zeus reboots randomly" due to overheating.

we are in the process of mounting ours "free air" with the included bracket + a 2.25" RAM mount system for that reason.
