I was able to buy a replacement board about three years ago. The replacement board fixed it at the time, but now it has degraded to only working some of the time. I also had the wind speed cup bearing fail, which I replaced. Now these parts are obsolete and no longer available. Reluctantly, I see no fix except to replace the entire mast head unit. The problem is that the 508 uses a simnet connector from the unit to the cable that runs up the mast, while the replacement B&G mast head units now come with a NMEA 2000 connector. So either need to replace cable in mast (Not my plan) or fit an adapter connector or splice (also not my plan). B&G also now offers a wireless mast head unit that Bluetooths to the network below. Would be interesting if someone who has one provides input on how it’s working.

Box - the box you show in the photo is the radar and WiFi network interface.
I installed the wireless wind unit in 2019. No issues with signal dropping. Did some research before buying. Was concerned about the solar power rechargeable battery. A guy in Norway had no issues with the battery going flat.

Re: B&G WIND SENSOR ISSUE

We installed the B&G Wireless Wind Transducer in early Sept 2020 and I have not experienced any issues with signal. I was extremely reluctant to do it but once I discovered I could not get a new cable up or down the mast without de-masting, the decision was actually quite easy. Cables inside the mast are wire-tied, took me several hours and a few texts between me and another owner of the same boat to confirm. So fingers crossed still, but so far I'm impressed and happy.

Did you mount Bluetooth station above or below deck? I would want to mount below deck.

We originally thought we would want to mount the 'puck' below deck, then I worried that that might interfere with connectivity. So then I was going to mount on the front of the pedestal, when I instead mounted it up inside the front of the center pedestal. I am sorry I do not have pics to go along with this. It was actually easier because we had already replaced 3 Raymarine displays with 2 B&G Tritons so the NMEA2000 cables were right there. I forget exactly what the instructions say in regards to the line of sight.

Thanks. Do I understand correctly your ‘puck’ is mounted inside a fiberglass enclosure (pedestal)?

Yes, you are correct. I just took a pic of a 470 from the internet and circled where on my 470 I hid the puck. Its not our 470 but that doesn't matter. Keep in mind we swapped out the existing equipment, so we'd already run NMEA2000 network all up through there (not fun) by removing the pedestal. Once you have NMEA2000 somewhere though, its easy to add more devices to it. That's a plus!

While we were still in our 'testing phase' we actually had it wire-tied to the post above the eventual resting spot. I was pretty nervous that connectivity issues might happen with the boom sitting above that central spot a lot. We were originally thinking we were going to mount it on the ped and were gearing up to drill into it. I dislike putting lots of holes in things and did not want to go that route if possible. That was how I came up with the out of the way hide-the-puck method. Good luck!

Re: B&G WIND SENSOR ISSUE

For what it's worth, there is an interesting video on YouTube regarding replacing the bearings in the B&G Wind Sensor that merely involves the bears themselves, roughly $5.00 USD themselves. See below:
I/we will be going through this exercise (unfortunately) shortly aboard HyLyte.

Re: B&G WIND SENSOR ISSUE

Just wanted to let everyone know that the PCB board was bad and caused the problem. It's now fixed and everything is good! Thanks for the input.

Re: B&G WIND SENSOR ISSUE

Hi,
Message to RigBig,

A friend of mine from Switzerland (flag) is looking for a PCB from B&G 508/608 because of an intermittent fault. He is currently in Tanzania ...
He could not verify if the fault came from the socket at the top of the mast or from the PCB, but as the majority of faults come from the PCB, that the equipment is three years old, possible that it is the card ...
I can ask him to climb on the mast and check connectors but the fault is very intermittent, so he cannot really be sure to fix by simply cleaning contacts.

I asked an American Ebay reseller who sold one if he wanted to send it to France, negative response.
All the French and Swiss resellers that I interviewed are out of stock and for those who have ordered, they do not know the delivery time.
Questions :
1 - Is there stock for this PCB in the USA?
2 - Is this piece still relevant or is it obsolete?
3 - How to start from France (where I am) to find this part in other countries?
4 - Possibly, do you know of any resellers having the part in stock who could send it either to France or to Tanzania?

Bests Regards from France
Sorry for my bad spoken english...
Philippe
