B&G vulcan radar overlay

Installing a B&G vulcan plotter and Halo20 radar. I will keep using my raymarine wind, depth and below deck autopilot.
Will I need an additional compass or can the autopilot heading compass be integrated so the radar chart overlay works correctly?Click image for larger version

Re: B&G vulcan radar overlay

Assuming (!) that the Raymarine AP outputs compass (heading) data in the correct protocol (N2K/Seatalk NG), or you buy any necessary converters, you should be able to get the heading data into the radar. But good stabilization of the display usually requires faster heading data than 1/second. Check the AP output specifications.

Thanks for the input, adding a GPS antenna from b&g is probably the simplest solution

No, you need a heading sensor that updates 10 times per second (10Hz). Most autopilots have that same requirement so if it’s on the same nmea network, you’re good to go.

I use a Maretron and Airmar heading sensor on my B&G radar/plotter as well on the B&G autopilot.

Re: B&G vulcan radar overlay

the pilot is probably seatalk. you can buy a seatalk to seatalkng converter from raymarine. then you need to adapt the seatalkng cable to nmea 2000. this will give you heading to the screen. and waypoint steering data from the screen to pilot.

if the pilot has 183 in / out. you could also buy an actisense 183-2000 converter. mayber easier then the raymarine one. they are a bit tricky.
