B&G Vulcan 3 - SeatalkNG - Seatalk questions

Hi All,

I installed a new MFD at the end of the summer which was a 7 inch Vulcan 7FS, and to talk to the instruments that were already installed on the boat I bought a Seatalk -> SeatalkNG hub and cables.

The boat has ST40 Depth and speed instruments, and ST60 wind instrument.

After installation I can get it to 'scan the network' for sources and it find the Seatalk instruments, but they disappear after about 30-40 seconds.

If I turn the Vulcan unit off and on again, it will do the same, with the instruments disappearing after about 30-40 seconds.

Has anyone come across this before? If so, did you manage to fix it?

Thanks,

Phil

Are the ST40 and ST60 instruments powered up? I found that with the Zeus, first initialization wanted everything on the network powered up before the Zeus.

I have installed lots of zeus's with raymarine instraments with seatalkng converter and never had an issue.

my one comment is you may have the system dual powered. if you connected to an existing seatalk network. don't connect power to the seatalkng bus converter. it will get it from the seatalk bus. if you did. you have 2 power sources powering everything right now. though that would likly cause different issues then what you are getting.

Re: B&G Vulcan 3 - SeatalkNG - Seatalk questions

This sounds like a network issue. Here are a few things to look into:

1. Does your network meet proper NMEA 2000 specs?

2. Do you have proper terminating resistors? What is the resistance of the network?

3. Look at the Network Diagnostics on your Vulcan and see what it thinks of the network.

4. If you can, manually configure the source selection. This may force the Vulcan to ping the instruments more often.

Thanks for all the replies.

I'm out on the boat this weekend, so I'll try all the suggestions, and let you know if it worked!

Happy sailing,

Phil
