I had the same radome, so I'm just trying to get some background feedback.
The closest partial explanation I could get was that the new doppler radomes have much better
water ingress protection than the previous series. After I asked what if any guaranties they could make regarding the new units.
No doubt they probably improved the design when issues were found but I'd still appreciate a better explanation of what the original failure was.
When dealing with the tech support they instantly knew it was failed as soon as I reported the symptoms were.
Not sure if that I'll ever get a straight answer.
But when I did the
refit I went all
B&G stem to stern, comm backbone, auto pilot, 12" and 7" chartplotters, depth/speed,
wind speed, separate stand alone instrument in case of a
chartplotter failure, etc. So I will be
purchasing the new doppler unit in the hopes it has a longer working life.
