Angry B&G and Beneteau

A bit of advice please!
On my 55 I have 5 screens. The one at the nav. station has failed. It is connected to a remote controller that allows you to view any of the four screens in the cockpit.
Navico has told me I need to replace it as it is not fixable. Also according to their tech person he said a new one would not be compatible with my other screens as new devices are not backwards compatible.
I said I find this hard to believe especially as the yacht is only 5 years old.
His reply was that the screen is 12 years old. I asked how is this possible?
He had traced the serial number and thus could prove it. Apparently Beneteau bought up a large batch and it took years to work through this stock.
I am reluctant to buy a new screen although I do not believe his "backwards compatible " line as they all work on NM2000 .
Am I being overly optimistic or should I just move a screen downstairs from the cockpit as no one really needs 4 screens?

No. They seem to be very hard to find.

Doesn’t matter if N2K is all compatible, screen sharing/chart sharing/radar sharing is all done over a intranet type network.

If they changed their network architecture to support more data sharing, then I can understand the lack of backwards compatibility.

Re: B&G and Beneteau

I guess this is possible, but sounds very unlikely. Why don't you list part numbers/models or better yet - go to TheHullTruth and see if folks there can help (They are much more electronics focused).

Someone at our marina had to replace both of their B&G plotters on about 5 year old O35.1 because the screens delaminated (a known defect that impacted a number of units). He reached out to them and they didn't want to admit to it being a defect that they should take ownership for, but they did agree to provide a set of discounted units.
