Autopilot manual bypass

Is it normal these days to have the autopilot hydraulics on just a Normally Open (NO) bypass (so if the power ever failed the solenoid would open and you could hand steer) or is it better to also have a manual (hand) operated valve as well?

The picture below shows a manual valve - on the other side is both a solenoid and a manual valve as an override - but that setup is 30 years old now.

Wondering what most boats have these days - ie just the NO solenoid?

Re: Autopilot manual bypass

Actually I take it back - on the other side is not a solenoid - but a vale. The wires you see in the picture are for a reed switch presumably to indicate on a panel a light when the AP is engaged?

Would this make more sense?
