Autohelm ST2000 Question

Hi folks- I have come into possession of an old Autohelm ST2000 tiller pilot.
It had a two pin plug and a black case so I assume its very old and from the 70's.
Anyway so wired it up to my home solar panel to see if was working and the display powered up but when I tried the +10 or -10 buttons nothing happened -no movement of shaft, so opened it up tested to see if power was getting to moter which it seemed to be and all the belts seem to be ok so I assume the motor is bust or burnt out.
So my question is - it worth trying to get a replacement motor or just dump it.

Powering from a solar panel is problematic and could do damage. Better to connect to a car battery to see if it works. The ST2000 are brilliant bits of kit, sailed many 1000s nautical miles with ours. From memory there were 3 wires, 2 for power and one for SeaTalk. The =/- buttons will move the pushrod in Standby, in auto they will set the magnetic course. When you apply power the display should work and show the magnetic heading. The motor is a pretty cheap servo motor which was fairly easy to obtain.
