If you have the early non "ST" 4000, you need to find a "radio navigation interface" to accept NMEA 183.

The later ST 4000 will accept the NMEA data without the interface.

Thanks for that, Yes it is the non "ST" 4000 model
I will start to hunt up a radio navigation interface, any helpful hints to which units are better than others ??

Or is it easier and more cost effective to upgrade to the ST 4000

Re: Autohelm 4000 interface with Raymarine A50d

There was only one "radio Nav interface" made that works with the 4000. One that looks identical was made for the 6000 but won't work on a 4000.

You can occasionally find one on Ebay, usually about $100. If you really want to interface with a GPS, the ST4000 plus is nice but you would also need a compass.
