Anyone using Chinese ONWA electronics? Sample quote

In one of these threads somebody mentioned using Chinese electronics for a cheap refit.

Out of curiosity, and since I import some Chinese surgical equipment into the USA, I contacted ONWA marine for a quote. Below is the prices given without import duties - they may be 0 to 15% in my estimation.

I have not pulled the trigger. have anybody used ONWA brand electronics?

I own a K-Combo 7 (chart & sounder) which I imported directly from Hong Kong with no duties. Have had it a few months now.

I engaged with Onwa via email for parts and service on a k-combo and received excellent service including a direct email to techs and their manager, and had no problem ordering parts to the US.

The one thing I would comment about these and other Chinese electronics is that they are good basic units. They are missing the bells and whistles and cool features that the American mainstream brands have. There is no down scan or side scan for example.

If you’re okay with that then you’ll save a ton of money or be able to afford a much larger screen. My 7” is okay for my center console boat. But for a trawler or larger vessel I would have gone with a 12” screen for sure.

I would check on the duty rate to be sure. I import (or should say imported) chemicals from China and the Trump duty added 25-30% to the costs.

If you don't already know about it you can research duties at https://www.usitc.gov/

I need a radar and AIS transponder. What about hydraulic auto pilots? Because I’d like to get in on this order if so. Maybe we can get a few people in on this order.

After getting some Chinese small engine gear lately that is equal to its Japanese counterparts, and seeing this article:

https://www.insider.com/china-space-...ds-2021-12?amp

I think the time to worry about quality with Chinese stuff is coming to a quick end.

What are the odds of hooking us up to a laptop for the chart plotter? I don’t usually like to get a standalone chart plotter like that. I prefer to run software on a laptop for navigation. Do they have proximity alarms?

ONWA, OVA and Bocci are all good brands used by commercial vessels in Asia. Check to see if any have type class.

When I was in Hong Kong I went to the ONWA office, Kelvin was very helpful and.provided really good information.

I did purchase an AIS and Kelvin did also help with connections I also required.

Ashas been already stated they make good products and stand behind what the make with on going service.

In fact, it's the opposite, ONWA produce for Furuno.
They have a very good service, I'm in contact with them about the development of an app to use their radar with android tablets (I'm the developer of the SailProof rugged tablet &#128521.

How do you obtain Navionics charts, and install them?

Thanks,
