Anyone using Chinese ONWA electronics? Sample quote

There is another thread on ONWA electronics on the Trawler Forum where I and others assessed them further.

One thing I can tell you is that their screen brightness is deficient for use on a flybridge or outside even under a Bimini. At 400 NITS it barely compares to the 1000+ of a mainstream unit. Perhaps in a dark pilot house it would be okay.

I recommend you contact technical support before you buy one of these units, find out the brightness of your model of interest, then test your particular mounting location with anything that you can dim to an equivalent level.

Thank you, that's a huge issue for most of us. Obviously using a lower-quality screen is going to lower the price, but this is not an area to compromise on. Not sure how I missed the thread on TF. Glad I know what to look for now!

Cap, Iím a fan of ONWA but I was frustrated by mine on my fishing boat, even with a hard top. If I hadnít sold the boat then I would have replaced the unit.

All in all, good kit for the price.
may i ask what autopilot it is interfaced with ?

Itís a geonav/humminbird gsc110. All in all itís a great autopilot. And it only misbehaves when the xte fed from the plotter goes wonky. Steering by the compass itís solid.

Re: Anyone using Chinese ONWA electronics? Sample quote

btw, when looking at hooking up onwa to other systems i came across these converters

https://www.lusty-blundell.co.nz/pro...755-converters

which seem to solve the problem of going from 0183 to 2000 and/or seatalkng very neatly.

of course theory and practice are different but look worth a shot

cheers,
