Anchor Alarm/GPS Issues

I have an iPhone 13 Pro and am using Aquamap for an anchor alarm. We are having reliability issues and I am winding if it is an iPhone setting problem, and I am curious if others are having the same issue.

When running the app open, the iPhone only seems to take GPS readings when I pick up or wiggle the phone. Then it seems to track the last several minutes and updates the boat’s position. The same thing happens on my wife’s iPhone 12 Pro and our iPad.

I communicated with Aquamap support and they cannot replicate the problem.

I have an old iPhone 7, and it works fine on that phone which leads me to believe it is a setting or it is built into the new iPhones.

I have found other people with this issue. Anybody else?

Yes, I too have been having this issue since an iOS update last year. Have searched a lot to try and find a fix but haven’t been able to. I believe it to be a power saving feature in iOS.

It seems to be a newer iPhone issue. Certainly 12’s and 13’s. My old 7 works fine. I am guessing most people are having this problem, they just don’t know it!

well it somewhat makes sense to me. constant gps updates would kill a battery quickly. so using a montion sensor to trigger a gps update makes sense to me. so it's not draining a battery while not moving. most people are using the gps to run / bike etc. not sitting on a table beside their bed.

I would agree with that, BUT it should be disable-able.
