I am outfitting my
boat for coastal cruising. The
Raymarine ST40 Bidata System is an attractive product for my purposes. It includes two through-hull transducers, one for
depth, the other for speed and temperature. It calculates distance, provides
depth alarms, and other features. It's called Bidata, because it can only display two pieces of information at one time. That's okay with me for my purposes, especially at about $280 through on-line retailers. I am, though, concerned about this product, especially given the financial state of
Raymarine, as it has been discussed on this forum.
ST40 Bidata System
Would appreciate any suggestions for an alternative to the Raymarine ST40 Bidata System. It appears from my limited
research that the closest alternatives are the
Furuno F1503 and the
Garmin GMI 10. These, though, are much more expensive and appear to require the separate
purchase of through-hulls at about $200 a piece.
Thanks for your help,
Roscoe
