Advice on MFD replacement into Furuno network

HI All

You may have seen my other post about my Furuno VX2 MFD failing recently. The tech hasnt confirmed yet but the suspicion is the unit will need repairs and will be away for some time.

The other thought I had was to put something else in. I know the Furuno gear is top notch, but frankly the generation I have leaves a lot be desired from a User Experience point of view.

As the MFD is the heart of the system along with the Furuno server FI3005 and I have GP-32 (excellent), radar (which I never use), auto pilot (use all the time), FI-30 displays x 2, wind instruments x 1 and sounder, what are my options?

I think it uses NMEA 0183. Is it possible to plug say a garmin or ray marine MFD into the network and have it actually work? Or is it a case of one out all out and I need to replace the lot?

Many Thanks

David
