Re: 5G possible GPS interference..

I have seen this and I don't think this is correct. Meaning, the FCC is "giving" a slice of the L-band for 5G. However, 5G satellite allocations for the US is in the 3 GHz spectrum. There is no allocated spectrum assigned for 5G in L-band. And, on top of that I have not seen any articles about which frequencies in the L-band are being "given" to 5G use.

Hopefully someone here is on top of that. I sure would like to see the spectrum assignment.

Re: 5G possible GPS interference..

This fight has been going on for years. I’m too lazy to go back and research the whole issue, but there’s a band of frequencies adjacent to the some of the current GPS frequencies that they want to reallocate for terrestrial use. The original company that invested big bucks into purchasing the frequencies was, IIRC, called Lightsquare. The FCC has been on both sides at various times. The Defense Department always opposed it, basing some of their arguments on possible adjacent channel interference to terrestrial GPS users, particularly those with "cheaper” GPS units that might not be able to reject the adjacent channel signals.

Lots of money in play and lots of "experts" on both sides of the fence.

Yes. Much discussed but time will tell if these fears were based. FCC known to be very very careful in their earlier decisions.
