2005 Catalina 387 depth finder

Hello.
Sailing a Cat 387. I'm currently in the water and wondering what the offset should be for my depth finder.
One person told me that the sensor is 18" below the waterline. Just looking to confirm.
Thanks.

That’s all depends on where your transducer is installed and how far below the waterline it is.

Jump in and have a look ! Also depends if you want depth under keel or actual water depth .

Yeah. Right now there is no offset programmed.
I can't accurately measure.
Hoping someone with the same boat would know the the distance the sensor is below the waterline.

In all seriousness. If you are in a place with sand bottoms you can run aground and see what your depth sensor reads.

There's a great idea. Now why didn't I think of that?

Re: 2005 Catalina 387 depth finder

I ran aground at Treasure Island in SF Bay and the depth gauge read 4.1. The Catalina 387 has a 6 ft keel (if it a fin keel). So, my offset is approximately 1 ft 11 inches on my Catalina 387

Not necessarily.

Back in 2013, we went in to Treasure Island with our 6' keel and the depth sounder reading 4.x feet at entrance. Our friends had a 7 ft keel and found the same. Both of us had calibrated our sounders (to depth at waterline). We were (easily) ploughing through jello-like mud.
