I suggest buying a boat that's wired for the part of the world where you will be doing most of your cruising. If that's the USA, you will be looking for a boat wired for 120 volts AC.


When and if you decide to travel where the standard is 240 volts, you can buy a stepdown transformer.


There's no need to do anything drastic to the boat, just plug the transformer into the 240 volt dock pedestal and plug the boat into the transformer.

I.e. Brazil - they have a mix and you have to carry transformers depending where you go. Major pain.
