1" male-male antenna coupling/nipple mount

Howdy all,

I am looking for an approximately 2” long marine grade 316 SS 1” NPS -straight thread, (not NPT -tapered as shown in the picture) male-to-make coupling/nipple to mount a GPS antenna on a side stalk of my radio mast. I can find NPT threaded nipple, but not the straight thread. I may not be searching on the correct terminology.

Any help in sourcing such a beast is greatly appreciated!

Re: 1" male-male antenna coupling/nipple mount

You can make(or have made) any reasonable length of 1"-14Thd (1"NP) male threaded pipe by threading extra long threads on a length of Sch 80 pipe.
The normal length of tapered thread on a 1" pipe is about 1" long. If you keep threading farther, all thread will be NPS (1"-14NP),except the innermost 1" or so.
I do this with alum. pipe for ant. mounts, but you could use SS pipe.
Another method is buy a 1"-14thd NF bolt & cut to length you want.

Cheers/Len

Hi Len, thanks for the tips. I am just really surprised that the local shop doing the fabrication of adding an additional branch to my radar mast does not have the die to create a straight thread on a short section of pipe. I then started calling the various West Marine Stores (worse than useless and their new call holding music makes me want to go postal) and a few other marine supply stores in San Diego and got no where. It is getting bad trying to find boat hardware, parts and gear and even worse trying to find store staff that have a clue.

Take your pipe to a plumber, electrician or machine shop.Ask for 2 or more inches of thread to be cut.
Try your antenna socket. If it threads too tightly, ask them to set the die threads a little deeper.
