Would like to hire some one to write a sailing article
Hi!
I'm having no luck hiring content writers out in the world because they clearly know nothing about the subject: sailing.
So I would like to know if anyone here is interested in making a little money by writing sailing articles. You don't have to be an expert, just know what mooring means, for example.
I need several articles written about various interesting sailing subjects, and it's really open, so if you know a lot about something and would like to write about it, we could come to some kind of agreement.
Generally speaking, a 1500 word article goes for about $40-50, but this is negotiable.
Please let me know if you are interested in this kind of work and I'll give you more details.

So... you're looking for complete amateurs. A professional writer would charge $700 to $1500 for this work.

Thanks for that, Mike. She's really offering peanuts.

Contact a sailing mag and offer to pay one of their freelance team. Be prepared to pay market prices.

3 cents per word? Really? That's not even minimum wage...
There is a lot of negotiation needed there...
For that price I would not even send you something I already have written!

Re: Would like to hire some one to write a sailing article
For anything more than a paragraph or two, the pay would have to be significantly higher. The short pieces I've written for Good Old Boat paid many times more than the $40 you're offering.
When people read magazines they are looking for good reliable information. The internet is full of poor unreliable and generally wrong information available for free. The expectation for a legitimate publication is that the information in the article has been vetted and is reliable. Your requirement the writer need not be an expert is at odds with that expectation.

We would be interested. Obviously not simply for the money, but the experience alone could be interesting.
Not certain how to send my contact information using this forum but will look for information or contact data here.
Thanks

Re: Would like to hire some one to write a sailing article
I have read that some ambitious people have built a career out of snapping up this sort of bottom-level job, doing the minimum level of googling, plagiarism and cut'n'pasting sufficient to produce barely plausible content. $40 for 90 minutes of work, basically.
They do a ton of these for the practice, and to build a reputation. If they finally get some craft and domain knowledge, they can then get the better gigs and higher pay. Or they master the technique of barking out reams of fluff quickly. Seems that's in demand, too.
And let's not forget that there are people who have actually paid to be published...
So the OP may yet be successful in finding someone eager or vain enough to give this a whirl. But there's certainly not enough there to attract most self-respecting professional writers or subject-matter experts.

Re: Would like to hire some one to write a sailing article
For that price, and given the time it takes to produce quality writing, I'd think most people would prefer just to start their own blog.
If you're allowed to put your own name on it, I guess it might mean some exposure if the site gets more than your blog would.

There's a joke in there somewhere - about offshoring.

Re: Would like to hire some one to write a sailing article
[QUOTE=Mora;3098663]Hi!
I'm having no luck hiring content writers out in the world because they clearly know nothing about the subject: sailing.
Is it really luck or fair market value holding back the writing quality?
Do we know what the articles are for and who, in the end, really benefits from the publication?
