Worst storm in 20yrs. Northern Norway

The storm that hits northern Norway right now is the strongest one predicted in since 1996! average waves at 13 meters (38 feet) and sustained winds up to at 35 m/sec, about 70 knots , I think.

Man, am I glad I'm down south.

Here's a picture feed from m/s Richard With, The ONLY ship at sea outside of Bodø , Where I come from.
MS Richard With - Bergens Tidende
They could not get into Bodø harbour safely , and has to ride it off at sea.
They are doing 6 knots at the moment, usually they do 18-20 kts.

They run to the inside of the lofoten islands and are only seing 7-8 metre waves.

I actually saw one of those last year, floating a bit deeper that the one in your photo, not far from Marquesas Key. I called the Coasties with the lat long numbers, and took my deck broom handle covered with a pillow case and wedged it into the chassie lock hole. Like a little white flag. Dont know if they ever came and got it.

Just came home from securing our construction site. The storm is expected to reach Vadsø later tonight.

Re: Worst storm in 20yrs. Northern Norway

Video from inside Bodø harbour. but no boats lost.
https://translate.google.no/translat...tml&edit-text=

people up north know how to tie their boats.

edit:At one harbour in Tromsø , only two of 12 boats on the east dock survived. And more reports are expected as soon as the phone and internet is up and running the places who was hit hardest.

This storm hit from N-NW , and usually ALL storms comes from SW..

As a Merchant Mariner, spending a 30 year career at sea, I don't believe such conditions are not that uncommon. Here is a link to an American vessel that was in huge seas in 1998, on its transit from the Far East to Seattle: www.cojeen.com/ships/aplchinaphotos.htm
On the same route I've experienced similar conditions, (luckily not as bad of an outcome).
