Re: World Cleanup Day

Both the World Cleanup Day, and the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup offer options and support, including tips for how to clean up safely amid the pandemic.

The lockdown halted cleanups for months, leaving an estimated 84,000 kilograms of litter on Canadian shorelines between March and July, according to the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, a partnership between Ocean Wise and WWF-Canada.

Make a difference, and join a shoreline cleanup.

Re: World Cleanup Day

Raise Money for Projects That Tackle Climate Change
You may not know it, but the savings sitting in your bank account are, likely, contributing to the climate crisis, since major financial institutions regularly extend financing to fossil-fuel companies, and other polluting industries.
But now, the Global Returns Project, are asking individuals to commit 0.25% of their savings and investments, every year, to organizations that are combating global warming, with the goal of raising a regular annual total of $10 billion, within the next decade.
Funding (tax deductible) not-for-profit climate solutions yields returns just like any other investment.
The returns are externalized and shared, but they are real, identifiable and global.
When you Reinvest in Earth, you are not only supporting some amazing organisations, you are also helping to make a much bigger change in the way we use our financial system.
All of the investors’ contributions will go to charities including Ashden, ClientEarth, Global Canopy, Rainforest Trust and Trillion Trees, which focus on a range of climate issues, from preventing deforestation, to enacting environmental policies, and funding clean-energy innovations.

Re: World Cleanup Day

Save the planet. Donate money so Greenpeace can keep propane in this thing. Anybody else see the irony in this?

We regularly, daily clean up as we cruise the Caribbean. We have reusable bags and take our own boxes to street food vendors. We don’t buy plastic packaged stuff and shop open markets. Salty Dawgs and others participated numerous times in post hurricane clean ups. The last one was diving to retrieve hundreds of sheets of roof steel from Portsmouth harbor, Dominica.

Keep your money in your pocket unless you are sure it will be well applied. Join local organized cleanups everywhere. Take a trash bag on your walk or snorkel trip. If you see floating debris put it in your dinghy. Clean up is not a single day thing.

World Cleanup Day: September 16, 2023
World Cleanup Day [16/09/2023] unites millions of volunteers [70m?], governments and organisations, in 191 countries, to tackle the global waste problem, and build up the new and sustainable world.
https://www.worldcleanupday.org/?url...iAAEgK-JvD_BwE

World Ocean Day is celebrated every year on June 8.
“Planet Ocean: tides are changing”, is the theme for World Oceans Day 2023. [1]
The theme of this year’s World Oceans Day reflects an increasing recognition that the ocean is not only part of our [cruisers & everyone else] home, it makes up the majority of the living space on Earth. It plays a vital role in regulating our climate, feeding our people and nurturing life on Earth. *

It was first proposed, by two Canadian organizations [2], at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, in 1992 as a way to celebrate our shared oceans, and to raise awareness about the important role it plays, and how people can help protect it.
UN World Oceans Day 2023 is hosted by the Division for Ocean Affairs, and the Law of the Sea of the Office of Legal Affairs (DOALOS), in partnership with Oceanic Global, and supported by Panerai.

* Our oceans feed billions of people, covers over 70% of the planet, produces at least 50% of the planet’s oxygen, absorbs about 30% of carbon dioxide produced by humans, and provides 80% of the world’s biodiversity.
