Working storage

I recently acquired a 1947 Winslow, and she needs some work. I think it will take at least a full season to get her seaworthy again. Im going to need to move her closer to home. What are some things I should consider when looking for Marina or yard? I know some don’t want you doing your own work or having it out of the water for extended periods of time. I’m not sure what other pitfalls to watch out for.

Re: Working storage

Simply outline to each marina/yard what you intend to do and they will advise and or direct you elsewhere. Proof of insurance is sure to top any list.

Edit
Be honest with yourself on a realistic time frame for repairs or risk getting pulled under with yard fees.

Good luck and fair winds [emoji569]

Re: Working storage

What part of the world are you in? There may be some people on here that know some of the yards in your area and might have suggestions.

Re: Working storage

1. Haul out costs to pull the boat and setup on blocks
2. Is working on the boast yourself allowed; may need to be bonded/insured for $1M
3 Block storage cost per month
4. Cost for Marina to perform work; usually hr rate plus parts
5. Can 3rd parties be brought in; usually the boat yard has a pre-approved list of vendors plus a 10% fee to you for their work

Things to consider in your repair:

1)Haul boat out, pressure wash immediately before the hull dries

2) Block the boat and stage for out-of-water work

3) Inspect and confirm the work list and original estimate

4) Negotiate and finalize add-on work found during out-of-water inspection

5) Begin work on clearances, running gear, propellers

6) Inspect and repair through-hull fittings

7) Remove and replace zinc anodes

8) Prep the hull and apply bottom paint

9) After paint is properly cured, re-launch boat
