What happened to 7:1, which = 42,000' chain @ 3lbs foot =126000 lbs; LOL no wonder they're lurkers.

LOL...thanks for the answers! I had a feeling you couldn't do that!
Still intending to go cruising someday - does anybody have any feedback about the smallest/largest catamaran for one person cruising? -EJ

Re: Why Won't Some of You Lurkers Come into the Light ?

I 'lurked' for quite a long time doing searches and reading past threads. As things moved forward and I became ready to purchase, I started asking more specific questions.

It made me think though... if all those lurkers DID sign-up and ask the same questions (like "what boat should I buy?" or "what hull material is the best?") it would be overwhelming I suspect. Maybe it's good that people keep lurking and reading until they have a really good question? Maybe not.

Yes!! It can be quite disconcerting to sign up, ask a question, and be told: "We discussed this yesterday, do a search."

But, credit where credit's due, I think most lurkers do search the site before piping up - we are used to searching wherever we go...

And even if a question has been asked many times before, a new thread with a differently worded title can bring a new perspective to the issue. We love newcomers, they keep the place interesting!

LOL.... I think ur problem is gonna be..They will not let you anchor out there by the oil rigs.. You will have to keep her back in port, and when your off you can live aboard..

Can I anchor my boat wherever I want in international water?
How DO you anchor a boat in 6000 feet of water? I am thinking of a 40 to 50-foot catamaran, set up as a liveaboard cruiser. I intend to spend several years following in the footsteps (?) of the great Polynesian navigators of centuries past... and this oil-rig idea goes along with that...
What is the smallest catamaran that one man could live on and sail on the open ocean? What is the largest catamaran that one man could sail by himself? What other considerations come to mind from this idea? Am I crazy? Thanks, EJ

They used to let you moor to the rig, but that was way before 9/11. Probably still depends on the company, but you had to be underway when off duty.

She Whom Must Be Obeyed is SWMBO; so HWMO is surely He Who Must Obey.

The reason for the gap before punctuation is to enhance search engine functionality. If you enter 'engine' into a search, then any titles with 'engine?' won't show up. Nor will 'engine:', 'engine!' or 'engine...' It would greatly enhance my sanity if lazy ass members could add there own gaps if using punctuation in titles. Even better, don't punctuate. But only in titles.

Yeah - I made that up all by myself. Clever aren't I?
