I don't know about negativity, but some of us think it is a bad idea to essentially post blogs (even if you wish to call them logs) onto CF. BLOGS are fine for those that want to go check them out. But pushing them into a format like CF just fills it with posts that are not of interest to most. Can you imagine if I wrote a nice little app that automatically took CF members blogs and posted them to CF? There would be thousands of daily posts. I usually read CF with a poor Internet connection, so maybe I'm more sensitive to clutter than others. Some of the posters here have pushed their (b)logs onto inappropriate places been asked multiple times to stop doing it.

Yup, that's what blogs are for. Announce it here, and folks can follow it. It is also simple to attach your blog under your signature (see mine, below, though it's probably not what you are looking for).

Re: Why aren't there cruising report threads?

Blogs are all well and good however things I was thinking would be good to have are reports on things like how a perticular yard is. Recently a friend went into a yard for a bottom job and to have a single thru hull replaced. Now by the yards own web page it should have cost just south of 2k but when he got the bill it was just south of 4k. After he got out of that yard he was discussing the problems with some other cruisers and locals. The just was the yard has gotten a reputation for unnecessary up charges. Now if that had been in a guide format from other cruisers for the yards practices he wouldn't have gone there. ( not the only yard in the area). Found out later that there are other better yards with good reps. The diver he hired to do zinks recommended a quick haul to address the failing thru hull. ( diver didn't recommend a yard) that is the type of info that seems to be lacking in most blogs/port reports on sits like ac

I got up

I went down to boat and repaired the live feed cable to something.
The weather has been so bad here I didnt have time to take any photos. soaked from the car door opening to 5 yards and climbing aboard.

Came home and have been working on a seminar presentation for tertiary syphilis ( I kiddeth not).since 9am........... 10 hours with coffee breaks.

Would love to tell you about a boating day........ more than you know... However the upside is I will be Spain for 2 or three months from December.

Back on my head, if you will excuse the expression..........

I personally think it's a good idea and I would read it. Others who don't care for it, quite simply don't have to look at it.

Hi Newhaul,

Active Captain opened up reviews/ratings for all manner of services in July 2015. Their goal is the same as what you stated.

Here is the link to their newsletter announcing this service.

Right now it is located under their eboatcards.com site- which the intend to merge with the main activecaptain.com site in the future.

In case this is of interest.

Cheers!

Bill

CF has just such a forum. It’s called:
“Product or Service Reviews & Evaluations”
Here ➥ Product or Service Reviews & Evaluations - Cruisers & Sailing Forums

I said, in a different manner, just what Gord said. His had a lot more humor.

If it doesn't exist, it is usually for a good reason. And folks who complain it doesn't exist, should volunteer to make it so.

This thread has PROVEN that the information is out there, albeit in a different form and with different "links" than the OP may have liked.

On the internet, not everything is in "one place."

Except for our C34 website which I & tons of others have been working on for the past 17 years, doing exactly what the OP wanted: everything in one place.

Many, many C34-ers and other boaters who visit have worked and still work hard at it, but I ENJOY DOING IT and helping other boaters, and so do they.

We all volunteered our time and effort to assemble a ton of information, much of which I cross linked right here on CF when people ask questions, since it is not all boat specific.

FYI, a friend is trying to do the same thing for the venerable C30, since their information is in at least three different places. He's working on it.

So, to the OP, have the answers in this thread helped you? Do you still feel the "need" vs. the want, to have something else?

Thanks folks. Goin' sailin' for a few days. That oughta cure me, right?
I came to this forum to share experiences and knowledge with like minded people and along with some nice friendly folks, find a few bitter, self possessed, downright rude folks like you Stu...

Hopefully the new folks and people new to sailing will understand that you and some of your pals are NOT the type of people that they will find on the water.

Enjoy your "few days of sailing'", but I wouldn't hope for a cure for what ails you.

Re: Why aren't there cruising report threads?

This thread is like being in public and someone says something which may be perceived by some to be moderately out of line and someone else spends ten minutes screaming at them about how out of line they were.

This is starting to sound like an exclusive club that really resents anyone upsetting the status quo...

You didn't upset the status quo. You got upset because people told you what the status quo is and what it takes to change it.
