Which Forum Member Would You Like To Go Cruising With and Why?
Hello and happy 4th CF,
I look forward to my daily email with the new Cruisers And Sailing Forum topics. I quickly scan the 12-16 topics and pick out the most interesting sounding one and then work my way down the list until I have read all of them and their related posts.
Every day I learn a lot and also get frustrated by some of the threads and authors.
I feel like I have gotten to know so many of the forum members because of them sharing their experiences, likes and dislikes and opinions on so many topics.
I was sitting here this morning after reading a wonderful reply to an interesting topic (to me) and though to myself, I would really like to meet this person, which made me curious if other members had the same thoughts?
So I am going to start by stating who I would most like to meet and go cruising with and why.
Jim and Ann T Cate
- They have forgotten more about sailing then I know. I could learn more from them in a week of cruising than I have learned in the past 20 years by myself.
- They have been so many places I have only dreamed about. They stories they tell and the way that they tell them are like reading a good book.
- They don't get caught up in the drama and personal attacks like so many members do.
- They just seem like people I would like to say are my friends.
There must be others who see a name and look forward to reading their post no matter what the topic?
Jeff

Fully with you on Jim and Ann. Pretty sure I could very much enjoy a bit of time on the water with Evans (estarzinger) and Beth, and for the same reasons you cite for Jim and Ann. I've heard that Bob P. got banned from here, but I'd love to go sailing with him. I bet he can tell a tale or two. There are many others, most are pretty quiet most of the time.

Jim & Ann are on my list too. Rational, sane. Many times I ask myself, what would Ann do (say)?
I doubt out paths will cross. Cheers Jim & Ann!

Too many to name just one!.
After reading thousands of posts from the many helpful and diverse members of CF, I think I would enjoy a cruise or voyage or gam and learn something from many, while appreciating their differences of opinion and experiences. One would not be enough.

Evans Starzinger.
While he's been to the places that we'd like to go, and I would to learn a ton about that subject, it's his technical knowledge I'd like to tap. It would be great for me, but I can't imagine he would enjoy having such a simpleton student

I want to go with Mark J, always a good supply of beer on that boat and I am sure the bikini girls are onboard as well.

Everybody!
We could charter Queen This or Queen That and show them land lubbers what real cruising is all about.
BTW, on the second thought, it could not be everybody ... not enough space, not even on Queen Mary II! (?)

I think it should be a blind date. You don't find out until you walk down the pontoon in the marina and see who is moored in the end berth. That's your home for the next week with a complete stranger.

That's an interesting question, but I really don't have an answer. But it did give me pause to think of an associated question. Does CF ever sponsor or support any regional raft-ups? I know that members are spread about all over the globe, but it might be interesting to see who might be up for a weekend gathering at some point.

I think you would be disappointed with some of the stars on CF. Become your higher self and go sailing.

Can't name one since that would diminish many others. I'd spend a week with any of the familiar figures - even with the crankiest ones . There's so much to learn, not only on sailing but on the wonderful characters too. Some are experienced, some knowledgeable, some friendly, some funny, and some fall in multiple categories.

I would most like to go cruising with a gentleman skipper who permits his crew to take hot showers in private.
Perhaps I am quixotic! ???

Re: Which Forum Member Would You Like To Go Cruising With and Why?
cruising here on this coast i have met a few folks, some of whom are even friends.
imagine that.
some i have sailed with, more not.
some friends some not.
i havent aspirations of sailing with anyone in same boat. i might buddy with folks or blind date, under duress, but flippin' for drinks at la mona pizza here at marina zone or going to centro mercado and finding a good restaurant, which is go up stairs, flip a coin, sit n eat, is a better idea...
but, plans are always written in wet sand or liquid jello......

Re: Which Forum Member Would You Like To Go Cruising With and Why?
This goes along with what many of us post, SAIL WITH AS MANY DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND DIFFERENT BOATS AS YOU CAN. Offering to crew at the local yacht club is always a good way to pick up different ideas, and if you get a cranky skipper you are only onboard for a race. Cranky skippers, like cranky bosses are a PITA. Have fun. ____Grant.
