Where's my dad, Randy Peck
Hi all,
I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right section, but I'm looking for my father, Randy Peck. He is the captain of Kataboo, a 42 ft Westsail. I have not heard from him for almost 3 months now, so I am reaching out to this community to find out his whereabouts. Last I heard, he was in the southern Bahamas (perhaps a month ago)??? He may have headed for the Dominican Republic, or Cuba and then on to Guatemala and/or Panama. I really have no idea since he has no itinerary and I haven't heard from him. I have absolutely no way to make contact with him, so if anyone know him and can send me information I'd be so appreciative. If you do have contact with him, tell him to contact his family (specifically his oldest daughter).
Thank you all in advance!
Sincerely,
Worried daughter

Re: Where's my dad, Randy Peck
If you have any pics of boat or father would help (some folks remember boats better than people!).
Others more familiar with the area (and actually around abouts the Carribean) will likely chip in over the next couple of days....but FWIW, vague travel plans are pretty much the norm - both for weather reasons and simply because when their is no rush or need to be somewhere specific then very little need to have a firm itinerary.

"headed for the Dominican Republic, or Cuba and then on to Guatemala and/or Panama"
they are all places where people on a low budget can remain without making contact for a loooooooong time.

If you he has MMSI number you can find the vessel particulars at the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) web site. Click here for ITU ship database. Just the name kataboo from the US does not come up.

Is your father a ham?
If so, you could try the Maritime Mobile Service Net. Or search on Shiptrak.org
If not, then you might try having a friend or someone in FL or the carib put a call out on one of the cruiser's radio nets that call to that region.
A list is here:
East Coast Cruising Nets
Hope this helps
Best
John

Here are a few pics if that will help anyone! I realize that sailors are free spirits and don't follow an itinerary, but it is very unusual for him to be out of contact for so long. I heard he may have last been in the Turk islands?
Thanks ya'll!

As a father myself, I can assure you that there are precious few things in life that he enjoys more than hearing his daughter tell him that she loves him. But I can also assure you that--with every fiber of his being--he knows already.
To the OP, good luck finding him.

Unless you're registered on the credit card, they won't tell you that.

Try the radar tower in the TCI they may be able to tell u when he arrived and checked out. Customs immigration may have info too!

Did you ever locate you dad? If not I had a idea, if you know a radio ham on board a boat somewhere maybe their networks might lookout for him? If he has AIS you might be able to locate him using one of the online services that track AIS equipped boats.
Hopefully this post is not needed and you are already back in contact with each other.
