So they finally decide to put out fenders at the 4:20 mark? Really painful to watch. I feel for the guy. Knock on wood I've never hit another boat but I've been trapped in narrow fairway hell with adverse wind and current before and it ain't fun. I thought power boats were supposed to be easier to control than sailboats.

A guy like this hit the stern of my Alberg 35 in June this year. Ripped off the wooden cap rail and did some damage to the fiberglass, $4,500 in all (his insurance paid). I discovered that he had hit three other boats in separate incidents. The problem isn't just that this skipper was having a bad day, it's that they make many bad days.

OK.... It appears that the boat is attempting to turn around.
There is a crosswind(check flags)
The boat has lots of freeboard.
It has one engine.
Maybe a dirty prop.
His main problem is he does not know his boat.
When is the last time you've seen a boater practicing touch and goes in his slip.
Or take his boat out out in less than ideal conditions(just to see how she handles it).
I kind of feel sorry for the guy but, really feel sorry for anyone downwind of him.

The guy is trying to dock a twin engine boat with one engine. I've been there before but not like that. With one engine it's difficult to pull alongside a fuel dock, backing into a slip like he is trying to do is not possible. The crosswind is just icing on the cake. He must be running on liquid courage.

Common sense would dictate use the wind to advantage.. even if it means going bow in.. as opposed to the stern..

Actually I jut spent the summer watching somewhere between 10-12 boats practicing touch and goes and sailing into a dock. And using different slips to manage various conditions.

It was very very cool. We're new to this area, but some very respectable sailors out here...
