Weight

What is the weight of a Formosa 51 in ton? I have an discussion with a boat broker and he says it's 32 ton but as far as I know it should be around 25 ton if you don't fill the whole ship with fish off course.
It is an serious question if you're to lift the boat with crane.
Hopefully someone can answer soon.

Re: Weight

It's around 25 ton empty.

The broker is probably referring to registered tonnage, not a measure of displacement at all.

Peter--

As noted by SailMonkey, above, the "weight" of the boat (dry) is about 56,000 lbs or 25 (long) tons (English measure at 2240 Lbs/ton). The rated "tonnage" is actually a measure of volume from the "old" shipping days, one "tun" being the volume of a wine cask of about 252 gallons or about 40 cubic feet. Gross tonnage is a measure of the total volume of the ship. Net tonnage is the actual cargo capacity of the ship. Don't mix your (long) tons and your "tuns" or you and the broker will be speaking past one another.

FWIW...
