As noted by SailMonkey, above, the "weight" of the boat (dry) is about 56,000 lbs or 25 (long) tons (English measure at 2240 Lbs/ton). The rated "tonnage" is actually a measure of volume from the "old" shipping
days, one "tun" being the volume of a wine cask of about 252 gallons or about 40 cubic feet. Gross tonnage is a measure of the total volume of the ship. Net tonnage is the actual cargo capacity of the ship. Don't mix your (long) tons and your "tuns" or you and the broker will be speaking past one another.
