Wanted - a Buyer's Broker

Hi,
I believe I would need a "Buyer's Broker".
I'm looking forward to buying a sailing yacht in the US or Caribbean, and keep it in the Caribbean. Being based in Europe I would need someone trustworthy to help me in acquiring the yacht safely. Can you guys recommend anyone?
The yacht I have my eyes set on is located in Rhode Island.
Basically I need someone whom I can be sure to be able to trust and who would take care of the transaction professionally and with my best interests in mind.
Thank you,
Erik

Re: Wanted - a Buyer's Broker

Hi,

I'm Swiss living in the Dubai and would like to buy a boat in the US. So almost similar problem...

After several struggle I finally "found" Michele Martinage with Gratitude Yachting in Rock Hall MD. She acted as a real Buyers Broker – and it took me 12 months to find the right boat (with two US visits). She’s all over the place, quiet busy but I can highly recommend her.

Feel free to send me a private message and we can phone, email or skype.

Cheers Marco

I'm not familiar with northern brokers. It depends on how much you are going to spend. I've had my boat previewed by David Walters brokers here in Annapolis. They are in Fort Lauderdal, Florida. Their buyers are looking to spend more than 500k so it is worth their travel costs to preview boats.

I highly recommend Jack and Sharon Malatich, also with Gratitude Yachting in Rock Hall, MD. Another excellent broker (in my experience) is Suzanne Ellis with New Wave Yachts in Falmouth, Maine.

For Rhode Island I would recommend Derek Escher in Tiverton, RI. He's a multihull specialist but I'm sure he could represent someone in a monohull purchase.

I recommend Vicky Rassmussen at Integrity Yachts, Herrington harbor, Maryland. She lives on a boat. She understands and will help you.

Re: Wanted - a Buyer's Broker

This thread is producing some really valuable connections for folks looking for a trustworthy and hard working broker. The personal recommendations add a lot of validity to the brokers character and experience.
I'm sure those outside the US appreciate all of your comments. These are the kind of insights you can only get from a sailor who has dealt first hand with the brokers.
Unfortunately, those that I could recommend are either retired or passed on... got to be a message (for me) in that fact... Capt Phil
