We were sailing today and I guess the wind was too strong and our mast snapped! We lost our sails and all our rigging! We had to cut all the lines to keep from capsizing. Luckily, we were able to motor home.

Where can I get another mast for such an old boat (1978)? Is there a way to make a mast?

I love my boat and I’m so sad!

Very Interesting.

You can:
1. Make a wooden mast.
2. Use an aluminum pole.
3. Go to a rigging shop and purchase a new mast.
4. Find a properly sized used mast and get a competent rigger to fit it to your boat.
5. Call up offshore spars and have them build you a one off custom carbon fiber mast.
6. Tell all your friends you're now a power boater.

I'm not familiar with your boat design, so if you can post photos or line drawings to give us an idea of what she is, well, that would help work out a plan for you.

But masts are not too hard to build, and many small boats have similar rigs. Since you lost the sails too, no worries if the rig is a bit different in size to the original... the new sails can be made or acquired to fit.

Dwyer is the OEM and can send you a new mast. They are actually pretty reasonable for the V18.

I owned a Victoria 18 a few years ago, a spirited daysailor/overnighter with classic good lines.
The mast and boom are available from Dwyer in Connecticut. The mast is a DM-284, and the boom is DM-275, they also have the mast steps and hardware need for a new rig.
I no longer have the length measurements, but a phone call to Dwyer may help, they were the original supplier.

I also own a McVay Victoria 18.
I have the mast and can get any measurements or pics you may want or need.
