If so, then this sounds pretty good for indefinite tracking if the boat has solar/wind, and especially if the device has reception below decks and can thus be kept dry. My old SPOT does not work below decks, and I've read mixed reviews on whether the Delorme does. Seems like all the newer Garmin gps devices have much better antennas for below decks reception, and so maybe the new Garmin/DeLorme would fit the bill.

I've the Spot3 and it has to have a clear access to Sat signals.. it will not work below deck.

+1. I am also in the distinct group that has broke a SPOT device. They are not robust at all

Re: Urgent help needed to recover abandoned yacht NW Barbados
I had a delorme inreach in use for about three months last year. Put it out in the weather, on the cell, next to a rope clutch bank. It got splashed on and sometimes drenched. It never faltered. We also on occasion ran it with cord plugged into USB port. No issues.

Or fiberglass as it's called over here in the colonies.

Hi Boatie, what exactly would you prefer with the Bene keelbolts? Sincerely interested and I have a Bene..

We are planning on buying the new Inreach when it comes available soon for our Pacific crossing to supplement things.
That said, there are plenty of water resistant USB and 12 volt adapters out there. Google "TSO'd USB adapter".
A little dielectric grease goes a long way too.

TSO refers to aircraft equipment. FAA approved parts are built to a Technical Standing Order, this defines min quality standards for almost everything from tires to nuts and bolts, so when you see TSO'd your buying aircraft quality parts

I personally have no skin in the keel bolt issue other than checks and when needed maintaining by occasional tightening as and when.. that reference was for those who were advocating Titanium or other bolts..
Personally I am a lot wiser about what to look for/check than I was when my keel nearly fell off my first boat back in the mid 80's.. having owned and sailed many boats since those early days..
I've owned two Bene's and thought they were great for what I paid and what I used them for.

I realize that. Some stuff is quite handy and meets superior specs although you end up paying for it. Dielectric grease is cheaper.

Just keep in mind, that that thing is NOT water resistant, unless it is closed up, and nothing is connected to it.

Re: Urgent help needed to recover abandoned yacht NW Barbados
What you want is wireless charging, or charging via contact points like the motorcycle mount for the Garmin Montana. Provided it's made of something that isn't going to corrode in a marine environment, it could then be powered indefinitely from solar. Surprised spot or inreach haven't got something similar.
