Unpatriotic Independence Day Plans ???
Okay, our kids are all old enough to be off doing their own thing, so we are too.
We'll be raising a glass of pain killers to all those who fought for the freedoms we exercise, while watching the fireworks on St John, from our French built boat anchored off the wonderful British Virgin Island of Jost Van Dyke.
Unpatriotic?
I think not. But I did 25 years in the United States Army, so I'm going with the thought of it being an earned privilege.
If any of you happen to be in the area and see a beautiful lady with an old grouch on a Lagoon 400 named Do Over, feel free to stop by for sundowners!
The beautiful lady is so nice to be around that people usually don't mind being around me.
Cheers,
Lucky Larry

Larry, you sound like a lucky man. Enjoy, and hope to see you both in the Fall.

Such as you, I did my time in the Navy. But I don't like being around large crowds so I usually stay far away from any celibrations. So your choice sounds like a very good one to me.

I thought the Navy was all about packing you into the smallest space possible with 5,000 of your closest friends. I suppose anyone could grow tired of that. We were at Jost last year for the 4th and the celebration crowd was NOT there.
We did do Foxy's one New Years. 75 boats in Great Harbor is not my idea of fun. If we ever do it again we'll anchor around the corner in White Bay.
You know what they say: It's all fun and games until someone starts jousting your dinghy with their bowsprit. Or something like that.
Cheers

Quite the patriot, getting all friendly with the French for a little support and shooting at the British (or watching bombs going off by them?). That's just about how they started the whole holiday now, isn't it?

Exactly what I was going to say.
The most patriotic thing you can do is enjoy your freedom by doing whatever it is that makes you happy!

Just sailed with an English friend past Fort McHenry. He seemed a bit...uncomfortable....with the experience. I think you've a great way to celebrate the holiday.

Re: Unpatriotic Independence Day Plans ???
I guess it depends on how you define patriotism. I find it hard to wave the flag for a nation (and there are many that I'm talking about) slowly descending into endless wars for resources and a lock down of its citizens. Doing so isn't one of my favourite things.
I spent yesterday at the club, nice dinner, with some good people who are all into sailing. Today I'm going down to grab the forklift and start removing all the gear from Sabre Dance in preparation for gutting the interior and getting the engine out.
