TSC Northern Lights

Hi,

And just new here.
Recently, my new Generator, Northern Lights 673, is placed in the engine room.
The NL is activated by the NL TSC.
Is anyone familiair with the TSC?
Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Yep

Re: TSC Northern Lights

Hi Gord,

Thanks!
I've read this manual several times :-)

To be specific:
Warming up and cooling down is programmed in the TSC.
Problem is only that during warming up and colling down the load is on and that should not be the case.
The question is simpel: What can I do to prevent load during colling down and warming up.

Regards,

Yep

Re: TSC Northern Lights

Did I post my question in the correct Forum?
Should it not be in 'Electrical: Batteries, Generators & Solar'?

I just did a bit of reading and it seems you need a contacter to take the load off, do you have a contacter wired in?. Here’s a screen shot of MV Dirona blog re this same function, at the time of the blog post they were in Amsterdam.
I hope this helps.

Re: TSC Northern Lights

I'm wondering what you have that comes on automatically when the generator starts. The only thing we have is the inverter/charger. All other 230v items on the boat are generally turned off at the breaker. So the charger doesn't pull near enough power to worry about.

The main purpose is to provide electricity to the airco unit during the night.
The Victron Blue Power Panel (SOC high and low) is the source for on and off.

Ok. Does your air conditioning units run off the inverter then and when the batteries get low it turns on the generator? I have an old NL 8kva and a Victron Color Control panel so it's a pretty close match. But to run my A/C the generator has to be on, and that means pretty much 100% of the time as the load is too great to run off batteries for even a short time.

I had a relay in my power supply as you describe for many years but took it out as the relay was energized open when inverting and depowered when it was off. The relay coil actually pulled quite a few amps and I didn't see the reason for it. But it only opened and closed 120v loads anyway.

Correct.

But to run my A/C the generator has to be on

I've tried this and it works fine.
The generator starts well wenn the A/C is on and vice versa.
And my batteries can handle the A/C for some hours.

Re: TSC Northern Lights

Another question to start solving my problem.
Does anyone know how to switch on and switch off the load on a NL 673?

There’s a breaker on the engine mounted control box and there should be a way to do it on the main AC panel or possibly with the source selector unless you have a canbus controller system and are denied the last two options.

Re: TSC Northern Lights

Hi Pete,

Thanks!!!
I have more or less the same box.
It makes sense that a solution might be to interrupt the AC in this box trough a relais.
This will be the road to a solutions.

Cheers,

Yep
