Thursday Island to East Timor November

Hi guys
Just wondering has anyone done Thursday Island to East Timor in November then on to Malaysia?
Just curious, I know it is late in the season and was wondering what the weather would be like?
Cheers

Try here:

Climatology of Global Ocean Winds

Hold you mouse over any point in the map to see a Windrose for that period and location.
You can move forward in fortnightly periods.

Re: Thursday Island to East Timor November

As usual, StuM's advice and his recommended URL are golden.

Do your research on the Aus-Asia monsoonal system.

November is early in what is called the NW monsoon in S Hemisphere and what is called the NE monsoon in the N hemisphere.

Depending on the ENSO status this year (some met agencies are suggesting a 50% or better chance of El Nino conditions, others disagree) and the Madden-Julian Oscillation, you could be spending days in doldrums burning fuel or even days dealing with squalls and the effects of tropical revolving storms just a few hundred naut miles away.

So it's not a month I'd choose to do the voyage. But you're in charge of yourself and wear the consequences of your decisions.

I've attached a few surface streamline charts (winds at 10 m above sea surface) from Nov 2005 and 2004. Some come from my brothers in the USN, others from our cousins in Singapore.

Thanks for the advice guys. I was actually hoping someone on the forum had sailed this route.
