The International Bucketeers Squadron

After many threads and questions about what is important in life, especially the cruising one, it would seem that CF and it's very astute members have truly discovered the true reason behind successful cruising. From DOJ to Zee, the consensus of opinion is that it does not matter what you sail, how many hulls, what anchor you use, how many potential vagabonds that you have blinded or shot, the true measure of a cruiser is what kind, and how many, buckets that you have.

The cruising life has just entered a new and exciting episode.

Re: The International Bucketeers Squadron

A bucket a day keeps the doctor away.

What is the optimum size of a bucket? Ah you say -to what use?

Well I carry at least 3 buckets on my boat - frequently more. I have several sizes. a 4 liter, a 5 liter, a 10 liter and sometimes a 30 liter (beer and ice chest while partying)

Anyone else have favorite sizes?

Re: The International Bucketeers Squadron

OK, I am up for some ridicule
I have 3 buckets, one SS, one galvanised, one canvas; all around ten litres - the canvas one perhaps only seven or eight.
One day, I might get one of those new plastic ones!

Oh Wotname - be careful. If Poobeetle hears you have an SS bucket you'll get a 35 page dissertation on the failure prognosis of your bucket. REmember the crapitalists want you to have an SS bucket, since they can save 4 1/2 cents on materials in its manufacture.

You probably should a bought a titanium bucket which will not fail due to crevice corrosion.

Re: The International Bucketeers Squadron

thought i might repost this as part of my dissertation on life ,the universe and every thing

all cat 1 offshore south african boats have to carry a metal bucket,i could never work out why, untill one trip we ran out of cooking gas in a remote part of madagasgar just before a crossing to richards bay.

having just read a book about the long range desert group who operated behind enemy lines in the north african desert during world war two i borrowed one of their sop's

a quick trip to the beach where i half filled the bucket with sand, back on the boat, added half a cup of petrol and the grill from the oven and hey presto we were able to cook reasonably safely for a week till we got back to south africa

Re: The International Bucketeers Squadron

Bucket, lookit, go away for a couple of hours and see that several folks have joined the squadron, for whatever reason. Let's have no segregation here please, all bucketeers are equal. No matter what colour or creed of bucket, every one is on an even keel in regards to the worship of the most important invention since peanut butter sauce. If you can afford a titanium one, good luck to you, but if all you have is an empty can of beans with a piece of string for a handle, you are on equal footing in this select group.

Bucket love means equality.
