Re: The Future of Cruising Post-Outbreak

The real threat to our future cruising to any country will be the automatic seizure, search and dismantlement of our vessels looking for ISIS fighters being smuggled into their country and then we won't be able to fly back to our homelands because all outbound flights have been cancel from countries that have been visited by the Kardashians. Cruising life as we know it is over. We might as well scuttle our boats and move back into the caves. Chuck

Yeah well, for a would-be martyr there's probably not much difference between putting on a suicide vest and getting sick. I doubt the three letter agencies are laughing about that possibility.

Re: The Future of Cruising Post-Outbreak

I'm sticking with the circuit of San Diego, to somewhere, isolated, in French Polynesia, then a quick transit of the Hawaiian chain, then across to the isolated coves of the Pacific Northwest, then back to San Diego. Screw the politics, the terrorists and the crowds. All though, I'll probably catch ebola at the nearest Costco while stocking up on Raspberry Chipotle sauce.

I was being nice. Thanks for buying the book by the way. My silly post is just as serious as ebola affecting our future cruising. Chuck

A agree, a conversation, sure. But based on fact and not unsubstantiated media hype. There are much larger outbreaks of less deadly diseases that kills 10 times or 100 times more people than Ebola, so let's talk about those. To suggest that Ebola will somehow change the course of our chosen lifestyle is to accept that what we see on the evening news has anything to do with reality. But that's just my opinion and others can well argue that I don't know what I'm talking about. If it's on Fox News and on the internet, it HAS to be true. Life's too short. Go sailing. Chuck

Re: The Future of Cruising Post-Outbreak

Many health care workers in our family, some on the front lines, all echo Newt's response and are very worried about Ebola. What makes it different from a flu bug, is that there's no know cure or vaccine, and that they are being forced by government political correctness and government leadership stupidity to not take prudent precautions... like profiling. Air travel should be halted immediately to West Africa, why hasn't the US done this already like other nations?

I've worked as a nurse, my brother is a nurse practitioner, my best friend is an emergency room nurse... and there's many more in the family, everyone is worried mostly about what they're not being told. The disease appears to be much more contagious than what the CDC is telling us.

IMHO Ebola appears to be just a little more contagious than the hepatitis virus which is spread in a similar way. Even though there's been a vaccine for Hepatitis for over 20 years, several million carry or have the active disease here in the US alone. Fortunately, hepatitis can be treated and has a relatively low morbidity rate... but Ebola has a morbidity rate of over 50%. So, it spreads much like hepatitis, there's no vaccine, no cure and 50% die.... scary stuff and our government should be doing much more to protect US citizens.

The real threat to future cruising are the continued fees and mooring charges!

Re: The Future of Cruising Post-Outbreak

Here in the States heading north means getting close to where I am, and it gets pretty brutal in winter to be on a boat. However, I know a few people who spend their winters afloat, in Portland. Crazy people I say.

Good grief, why is everyone going nuts over this. Malaria kills over 600,000 a year in Africa. Ebola has yet to get to 3,000. SHUT OFF FOX NEWS!

Re: The Future of Cruising Post-Outbreak

the sky is falling the sky is falling
we all gonna die...
omy omy omy
we all gonna freeking die.....
the sky is falling i dont know why
mebbe the worry is the excuse you need to remain safely at the dock.... just a thought......
sensationalism... sky is falling... sheesh. yet so many believe in what is dictated to them from the doctrine reports and programming
me, i choose to be free.
freedom does not include worrying over stuff i can do nothing about that causes the sky to fall.

what do ye think happens in life--we all die
of something.
keep yer hands clean, feed chicken little good corn, and keep on living.
why worry when all worry does is make you die earlier..
