Just wanted to formerly give some recognition to someone who I feel deserves it.
Last summer during a transatlantic delivery
, I found myself to be the unanticipated recipient of Evan's gracious information sharing when I repaired a broken running backstay on an IOR older boat
by using the EStar stopper knot
which I found online while in Horta, where no suitable replacement could be had.
The failed part was a swagged ball fitting on coated wire that fell through a hole in the upper spreader base which I replaced by dropping down some small sized dyneema
and a stainless washer which I backed up with Evan's stopper knot
I can't speak over the long term but no obvious chaff was detected and I believe it to have been an effective and expedient solution that may become permanent. Sorry I don't have photos.
Thank you estarzinger!
