Tanzer 22 Electrical Help Please!

Hey everyone,
In my second year with a tanzer 22 and trying to get the electrical sorted out. Having a hart time figuring out where the black and white, and green wires off of the green switch knob (Negative battery terminal) should connect to. There are four wires coming from the switch knob. Attached some photos to hopefully show what’s going on, and one of them is my Drawing attempt at showing what’s happening. Also, any advice for tracking the current using a multimeter would be helpful. I know it’s a confusing topic but any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Cheers!

I can't say I know what you have going on there, but in the first photo it seems your battery post is not on the battery where it belongs?

Thanks for your response. Correct, I pulled it off the negative terminal just to Try and show the Switch better.

When you have mystery wires, you can check your onboard equipment to see if it is getting power; look for the other end of loose wires, and so forth. There is not really a standard blueprint for wiring, it is usually unique to each vessel. Could be something use to be on board that is not there anymore, with residual loose wires left behind.

Re: Tanzer 22 Electrical Help Please!

Thanks again for your input! I’m trying to troubleshoot the electrical “myself” so that I can gain experience and understand my boat’s setup. I have some good news! An electrician friend of mine came by and helped. The yellow 20 amp fuse had corrosion, so we scraped it off And got the switch lights to turn on and got a current in 3 of the 4 switches. There are 3 tethered connections on the 4th switch that run the spreader light and mast light and a windvane (and maybe the deck lights). I’m going to try and take the screws out From the buss and see if they’re corroded and test the current as I go. I still have no idea what the 2 Additional dead end wires Coming from the negative terminal switch/knob Are for...? Will keep posted.

Assuming dead end means the same as open circuit or disconnected, then most likely they were for some item a previous owner removed but left some of the wiring in situ.

Or if the ends are simply corroded, maybe they have fallen off some item that isn't used regularly.

Happy sleuthing!

Re: Tanzer 22 Electrical Help Please!

Hey folks, thanks again for your input. Just wanted to let you know that my electrical is working! All deck lights are working and I cut the wires Back from the mast and attached them to a new 4 pin connector And now my spreader and masthead lights are working!!!

Now to figure out why my engine won’t run without the choke fully pulled out. Seems like a dirty carburetor probably? I removed the fuel filter and there was some gunk in there so that apparently means that the carb is most likely dirty. Always something!

Cheers!
