St. Martin Charter Oct 7 - any updates?

We are scheduled to leave on Oct 6, arriving in St. Martin on Oct. 7 for our 10-day charter with DYC. When I checked with the broker this morning, they said the trip is still on. I suspect this is because not enough information is coming out yet.

We are hopeful that the Catana 47 we chartered is still afloat and in good shape, because we do want to help the economy down there.

If anyone has first-hand information and updates, that's more than the news is providing I'd appreciate it.

If you want to provide second/third/etc. hand information, please provide your source of information.

Thanks,

I don't know if THIS will tell you more.

At 3:04, I think this is Oyster Pond situation, but I did not found any for the 2 DYC bases... Marina Port la Royale or Marina Fort Louis

If your cata is OK ... the rest of the island is just ... "sorry no words for that"

I have 2 friends with their boats in Simpsons Bay and Oyster Pond and be sure their position is MUCH WORST than yours...

I am not sure where is the bay with 20 catas returned, most monohulls seems unmasted ...

Sorry for ALL affected by this ACT OF GOD !!!

There is a zero percent chance you are going on that charter from St Martin. Start changing plans now. Maybe change plans well to the south

Yes, while I have an uninhabitable home because of the flooding in Houston, many, many people have it much worse than I because of Harvey and Irma and I'm afraid many more will feel the brunt of Irma before it's all over.

That's what we're trying to figure out - is it zero or not.

I've been in contact with the DYC folks in Boston, our broker and the DYC folks in Martinique. They all say it's too early to tell. While a lot can be done in a month, even in the Caribbean, we are not too hopeful.

We are looking at Curacao for an alternative, but we wanted to give St. Martin a chance and if possible, hopefully help the economy a little by spending our money there.

Helping the local economy is admirable but do you really want to take a vacation in a disaster zone? I wouldn't enjoy sipping my From and Coke on the deck observing destroyed houses and life

Please....DON'T call it an "Act of God".
Then the insurance companies will not have to pay off.
Acts of God are exempt from coverage.

There is not a single charter boat sound and ready right now in SXM, not to mention any kind of facility ..

St Martin can rebuild very fast - they are used to this type of disaster - but only a month might be impossible. They are talking now to be ready for "the season" but that is December...

Not true. Wind damage (hurricanes), lightning strikes, hail, etc all would be considered by most as "Acts of God" and all typically covered causes of loss.

Speak of what you know

It would be very likely, if you were able to find a boat to charter, that you will have virtually no choices for food or supplies since all the islands will be desperately trying to restock supplies. Not sure why you would want to go even if there is a boat for you. Find another island that was not affected perhaps.
