Re: Southern Chesapeake Cruise

+1 for mobjack bay. I also like York River Yacht Basin on the York River. Downtown Hampton has some nice docks too. Salt ponds is on the west side and worth a visit. Horn harbor is tight coming in, but nice small anchorage.

Re: Southern Chesapeake Cruise

Very cool. I'll make sure to stop by that booth when we get there and say hi. I'll post our trip details before the event in case anyone wants to sail down and meet up for the event. Can't wait. Its always one of the more exciting times in crisfield!

Four more days! I'm having dreams that are concurring my fears. Being a new sailor of three years, this is my year to learn how to be a Captain!

On the hook I'm Onancock VA

Headed out this morning with wind forecast of 16
Well it's been steady at 20 with gust if 30

Is there a good app for wind forecasts in the bay
A few I've looked at are all way off

Re: Southern Chesapeake Cruise

Try WindAlert. Have been mostly pleased with how it reflects what I've seen.

Re: Southern Chesapeake Cruise

Ouch. Wonder if the wind is funneling up the river? or is it just reading wrong. Another one to try is Chesapeake BayWatch buoy data system. It just provides current conditions at various boys around the Bay. It's reading current conditions at the buoys, but doesn't forecast anything.

Just looked at
- Stingray point - 11 kts @ 235
- Potomac - 5 kts @ 177
- Gooses Reef - 7 kts @ 169

All within last 15 minutes

Sounds like a shifty day with lots of variability

We went out this morning and turned back in

The Tangier Ferry also waited a few hours because the conditions were bad

Totally shifty enjoying Onancock
The showers and laundry are under construction so looks like solar shower tonight

Hoping to head over to the Rappahannock in the morning

Re: Southern Chesapeake Cruise

Wisdom! Well done. We're planning on heading out Sat. Since the forecasts are so crazy, we aren't deciding whether to turn North or South until Sat morning. Welcome to spring on the Chesapeake!

Stay safe!

This morning after Captain made his decision to turn back, he said if I were 23 like our son and felt I had to prove something I would go but having two weeks on the Bay we can enjoy ourselves

We left Sunday out of the Wicomico River (eastern shore) Oh my between the wind and tide
The bow was plunging it was cold

Just another day in the Chesapeake

Safe Happy and secure

Update

Forecast while in Onancock VA for last Thursday was the same 20 to 25kts gusting at 30 so we said Let's go across to the Rappahannock
Remember a new sailor conquering my fears and I have a great captain
Coming across the shoals off tangier was really lumpy taking it across the beam I must admit I screamed when I took the helm, the kind when you ride a roller coaster
We sailed mainly with the jib,the captain wanted to let the main out but thoughts of him going out of the cockpit while she tossed side to side showed the fear in my eyes, I know I know sissy
Well, keeping his first mate happy was foremost on his mind
Beautiful sail into the Rappahanock wonderful jog at regent point marina magnificent sail to urbanna on the hook having a glass of Chardonnay
Thinking of starting a dating service for all those Lonely Captains looking for a first mate
