You have to consider the context as well.

As in plonk into the "ignore" file so you don't have to read their posts? I miss the day of rec.sports.harley when keyboard flexing bad guys strutted their stuff.
From someone whose back never recovered from that Compaq "luggable" at about 40lbs, but had his first computer job doing payroll by carrying a 36in in diameter 5mb disk out to a facility to print checks back in 1969.

Re: Sock Puppets
You know, I really hate it when I get to page 3, ready with a witty response, only to find that the thread has drifted so far afoot, my clever remark would be pointless.
Dont' you agree?
Yeah, I do.
Ditto.
Same here.
Good point, old boy. I'm entirely in agreement.
Maybe we should share our view.

Hey you guys! Shutup, I'm trying to read this...

Specifically it's the sound of a newbie when they hit the bottom of /dev/null.
In the early days of usenet, when unix command line tools ruled, to ignore a particular member you'd filter on their name and send their posts to /dev/null (sort of like a geek garbage can).

Re: Sock Puppets
You guys with fond memories of the Usenet- that's funny:-). How many people out there raided gopher sites at 3am with a 378 that you had punched cards for for a week to earn the privledge...Or talked with other malcontents in the dregs of the I RC on your homemade Apple 2.
Those were the days....:-)

We used nothing over a .22 on gophers... not sporting!
Oh, this is not a firearms thread?
Oooooppps
My first attempt at making an online air line booking worked... sort of. T'was in the old Compuserve days, when they emulated Sabre.
Made the booking, price was great, tickets came by FedEx next day and shock! Rather then the round trip I thought I made, I went to my destination, then 500 away from it, before coming back to home.
Line commands!
TTFC that they no longer exist in most of the real world (he sez as he is typing sudo in the text box on his linux machine).

Re: Sock Puppets
Just sock it to them, give them the boot, toe them away. It would be quite a feet to catch one! Quite an ankleless task I would think.
Regards,
Richard.
