Re: Social scale question?

It is not clear to me at all. Boat trash is one who stays in one place on a boat where maintenance has been neglected.
Same with trailer trash. Living in a well maintained mobile homes and displaying good manners are not trashy. Not to suggest such a condition would result in an invitation to join the country club...

Re: Social scale question?

So I guess at the end of the day, we need to see pictures of both dwellings. Then, we can have a better answer for you, Captain Bill.

Re: Social scale question?

Is that your picture Bill?
If it is, well, I mean, what do you expect, with a hat and hair like that?
I suggest you tidy yourself up a bit, before you go to the supermarket again and you might not be asked any more if you’ve got food stamps.
A shirt and tie would probably improve people’s opinion as well.
And if you must wear open sandals, for goodness sake cut your toe nails.
Other than that, I wouldn’t worry about it…

Re: Social scale question?

Captain Bill,

Why would you or anyone else for that matter care what "other" people think about you?

Ok! I am a bit of a hermit, I choose the cruising liveaboard life many years ago and I have never looked back. I do my very best to avoid crowds and while I am wealthy enough to live anywhere in the world very comfortably I have never regretted my decision to live the way I do.

And I do not care what anyone else thinks about me as long as they keep it to themselves and leave me alone.

So what dose it matter what landlubbers think of you? All that matters is what you think of yourself, if you are happy, content and satisfied with your life that is all that matters. If you feel the need for a temporary land based house then buy one and ignore anyone who says anything about you.

Moving up or down the social scale? Who sets the scale? What dose the scale look like? Who cares?

Re: Social scale question?

So you spend a few months a year on your yacht, instead of keeping a summer place. Problem?

Re: Social scale question?

Don't worry about what the snobs think. Their biggest problem is that they are snobs and will only have the opportunity to associate with other snobs limiting their social opportunities.

Re: Social scale question?

The key my friends is to not give a f*#k what other people think.
It’s truly liberating.

Re: Social scale question?

My daughter lives in Cairns Australia & purchased this 50Ft Ketch for $35000. She purchased it & rented it out to tourists, who seemed to enjoy staying on it in Trinity Inlet. She considered it a cheap investment & the mooring fee was $1000 per year, cheaper than council rates. She eventualy sold it & actualy made a profit.
