Hey it is just like in the magazines. But the dream of moving along to new places to see never leaves your thoughts.

Oh so true. But then the wind calms down and the sun comes out and all that is gone and life is beautiful again.

Actually, there is, your Abby normal.
Seriously it’s not for normal people, you have to be a little “off”

I grew up in a house with no AC and a wood burning stove for heat. That was in Maryland - a 4 season state. The driveway was a 1/4 mile steep hill (up hill both ways in the snow? ;-) ) Yet nobody would say I was roughing it growing up.

My boat has AC and HEAT! The dock walk is a flat 1/10 of a mile to my car. I have a fridge and running water. A shower and toilet, and electricity. A freaking stove! In no way whatsoever is a modern boat "roughing it". A modern boat is often "inconvenient", but roughing it? No.

Four seasons?

I’m fortunate to live in Massachusetts with only four actual seasons.

And we are all lucky to not live in northern Vermont where they have five seasons.
Spring. Summer. Fall. Winter. Mud. Then spring etc.
I recall driving up a hill (AWD SUV and four snows fortunately) in late springtime. Aka mud season. The so called road was gravel. Frozen. Then Ice. Then 6” of mud on that.
Very sketchy driving.

Indeed, cats rule.

We call that being “catted” and it is a guilt free way to say “I’d love to clear the dinner dishes but I’m catted so you’ll need to it. And my wine glass is empty and I can’t reach the remote. Thanks honey.”

Over time you even get some “how to sail books” and decide it is easy (it is, ........mostly, well kind of). Oh man... I literally saw this topic pop up from you in the middle of our 3days crossing (while updating emails looking for the weather update... and hove to waiting for a massive gnarly squall to pass by) couldn't wait to get back to shore/online and see where this went!!

Here's the truth at least from this boat (despite the fact it's coming from a VERY tired couple of newbies who just had 3 days of 2hour shifts, of big winds and rough seas without land in sight, ample moments of terror and where the number of lures stolen by fish/ocean well outnumbered the number of fish we pulled aboard (never a good sign))....

truth about cruising: IT'S WAY BETTER THAN WE EVEN EXPECTED!!!

Yup - just 4...lol It can go over 100 in the summer with significant humidity(not Florida or anything, but still...), drop snow by Thanksgiving, and gorgeous green, wet springs and vibrant Falls.
