Short Term Wi-Fi Internet Access Off Shore?

Will be sailing to the Chesapeake (from midcoast Maine) the end of September and looking for suggestions regarding internet access. Some of trip will be a good ways outside (50-60 miles I suspect) , especially once past the Cape and off the Jersey coast; I do some on line teaching and unfortunately will need to be on line 30 minutes to hour most days to at least comment on student work - will be sending only text characters not downloading video or music etc. In the past have had a "hockey puck", portable WiFi hot spot and gave it up when contract (Verizon) ended. Cell phone connectivity tends to make the phone quite hot because I'm using my laptop. I only need this for about 10 days or so - anyone have thoughts on best ways to do this without spending a ton. I have a Dell Laptop and an IPAD AIR.

You won't get any cellular wifi off shore more than 10-15 miles. I use a Verizon LTE Mifi for in shore and near shore. I used a Globalstar with a Redport optimizer and XGate when off shore. The speeds are 38,800 Baud. I also have an unlimited data plan so cost of data was not an issue. Just used it for weather updates. 38,800 Baud is very slow. There are very expensive data options but you have to have hardware and a service to use them.
