Shipyards Lake Michigan

Anyone have recommendations on skilled shipyards on Lake Michigan?

I might look at hiring out some of the restoration work on my 38 foot sailboat. Deck repairs and painting.

Im really considering paying for painting so I can have it sprayed with professional products.

You might want to check out Crowley's boatyard just down the Calumet River in Chicago off Lake Michigan. Otherwise, there's Center Pointe Yacht Services in Sturgeon Bay, WI.

Torresen in Muskegon has excellent trades. They have an indoor paint building for baking Awlgrip. The are known for their painting. They offer outdoor, indoor, indoor heated storage.

Thanks guys!

Crowley is close, but my experience has been everything in Chicago cost more.

I have heard of Torrence and may give them a call to investigate further.

Nothing is cheap anywhere. The issue is finding competent people to do the work. We kept our boat with Skipper Bud's on Lake Michigan/Northpoint and the few times we needed work performed due to time limitations, the job was done well and if any problems resulted, they took care of the problem. I don't know if Bill is still running the yard, but he would be an excellent contact. We left Illinois in 2018.

Agreed. DIY is cheap. If Im contracting its going to be expensive so I want it done well.

Crowleys was very good on the phone. I think Im going to drive over there in a few weeks and let them quote some of the work.
