shipyard in Fort Lauderdale

our sailing boat Beneteau 54 was damaged by IRMA.
We are looking for a shipyard in Fort Lauderdale or surroundings for repair.
There are many marinas in the area, mostly there are motor boats. Can anyone recommend a shipyard that can repair a sailboat our size?
Thanks a lot!

Try Lauderdale Marine Center, or Playboy Marine, among others.
Plenty sailboats being repaired and serviced in Fort Lauderdale.

Call ahead. Most yards are booked solid.

Re: shipyard in Fort Lauderdale

The folks at Whiticar in Ft Pierce are very good, expensive like most yards in FL, but they will do a great job.

EDIT- They will also let you work on your boat for smaller projects while they have it on the hard.

Re: shipyard in Fort Lauderdale

Lauderdale Marine Center is HUGE and has room for most anything. Pricey place but HUGE and has everything including a 6 bridge trip up river to get there.
Playboy is a smaller DIY yard and easy to get to.
Lauderdale Marina is also a yard right next to the 17th St. bridge.
Good luck.

Sorry you have to go through this. If you can motor north Crackerboy in Ft Pierce, Whiticar, and in Stuart Hinkley.

Much nicer pace of life, close to all Services and likely much more reasonable.

ALM in Stuart is also good. A nicer, and less expensive, town than Lauderdale.

Re: shipyard in Fort Lauderdale

I'd head north to Ft Pierce or West Palm etc. Also, observe/supervise the work yourself. If you dont like what's going on speak up to the manager. Some of these yards put the guy who was a burger flipper a month ago to work on your boat. In fact I would assume that is the case until proven otherwise.

What types of repairs do you need done? Are you looking for a yard that will do all the work, or somewhere you can do some, or all, of the work yourself? If you’re doing the work yourself, how long do you plan for the job? Several options, depending upon your specific needs. I’m in Fort Lauderdale, and would be happy to try and point you in the right direction, as best I can. PM me, and I can make some more specific recommendations.

Regards,
David

Re: shipyard in Fort Lauderdale

I have had good success with the Contractor's at Cracker Boys in Riveria Beach. I think timing is going to be your biggest issue.

I think you might be promised finish dates that will be impossible for the yards to keep. Once they have your boat, you're stuck with them. I would be asking a lot questions, try to get promises in writing and I think you will still be disappointed. There are many outstanding craftsmen in South Florida. Just be leery.

Stuart Yacht is Great. A small yard with very capable employees and management. They are reasonable and the quality of the work is very good.
