Re: Search for 1st mate keeper

This is great, never expected so much help.
Ok, I leave Florida and what course do I set? How many stops along the way to get to the end of the search and real adventure begins?
How will I know for sure when I get there? Need the REAL deal, not a fake or knock off.
I knew this was the place to come to for answers!
Thanks, I can't wait to get there. Wait, I can wait to get there. Part of the adventure is getting there.
Reminder, must be cat friendly! Mate, she's is 4 months old now and part of the package.

Re: Search for 1st mate keeper

Hi johnnyforu,

As a female, here are points I will be considering for a 1st Mate position.

I would want to know the approximate departure date, the return date and the destination. For example, I was talking to another CF member a few months ago. His departure date suited me but unfortunately his destination was coastal US. As a Canadian, I can only cruise the US for a maximum of 6 months per year. I believe the 6 month stay applies to most countries.

Destinations: I’m not a fan of countries where human rights are exploited and abused. SEA comes to mind - specifically continental Asia.

Other things to consider: Will you allow/expect her to handle the boat (i.e. sail it) or are you looking for a cook/social director/deck ornament/etc. In my case, I can handle a sailboat, but to be honest, the electronics scare me and the engine, oh la la, … I can read paper chart but that electronic stuff can be mind boggling. Also, if she acquires experience as skipper for a day, she may feel more confident should anything happen to you. This should include, IMHO, entry and departure clearance at various ports.

Costs: Are you planning to live on the hook or at dock? How much will she be expected to contribute and what will it cover? Food? Entertainment? Boat repairs?

I’m sure there’s more to consider, but this many be a starting point.

Just my 2 cents (USD) - Canada abolished the penny a few years ago. lol

+1. Seriously.

I've always wondered how these matches turn out for both parties. Though this sounds voyeuristic and creepy, it would be super intriguing to hear about the voyage

Re: Search for 1st mate keeper

baabs and me did not work out.
She had 10 times the money I did, (not a problem in my book), 2 nice 40 footers, a beautiful physique, a gorgeous smile and a soft french accented voice.

However she prefered Croissants to Ensaimadas.

Was all over at that moment.......

Good to know. That was another one of those curious posts. Too bad about the ensaimadas, though not sure why one should have to choose

Its a self made trap. Most men are looking at the packaging and forget whether the filling is to their satisfaction.

Well, the package is not totally unimportant to a woman, either, at least it wasn't to me when I was newly single. But if one really looks inside, soon one can find what really does matter, like similar attitudes towards money, sex, and religion, similar educational backgrounds (it's harder if one left school at grade 4 and the other is a PhD physicist.) Cross cultural marriages work for many, but also have some challenges.

However, once I decided that I wanted to be a "keeper", just dating anybody who happened to be around zoomed to the bottom of the list, regardless of the "package." I decided to focus on what I wanted or could accept in a soulmate, just as you'd do if you were going to buy a boat as an experienced boat owner. And then I did affirmations to focus my attention on being aware of it when such appeared. It did turn out to be Jim, for me, and I consider myself extremely fortunate that such a woo-woo, weird way of going about it worked.

One of the best books on the subject is "The Road less traveled"
(ISBN: 9781847398635)

I believe Scott Peck nailed the process of courtship and attitude displayed by both sexes and how the feelings change after marriage.

However, I must also add that finding out he was a serial adulterer during his career with his patients did not sit well with me or the profession. The vulnerability of patients is not to be exploited.

Ensaimadas rule.

A standard has to be maintained.
