Smile Sea Ray 315 hot water system

Hi all

We have recently purchased a 2003 Sea Ray 315. The hot water system is not working with on shore power. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Thank you

Re: Sea Ray 315 hot water system

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Lizi.
Breaker tripped/off?
HW element burnt out?

Re: Sea Ray 315 hot water system

There's often a thermostat, and an over-temp control... and a separate heating element.

In our system, the thermostat and over-temp switch (sold as a pair) need periodic (not often) replacement. Usually the heating elements are more robust, as long as they haven't been mis-used (run while dry, etc.).

If you check your water heater manual, you may find a diagram of parts. Once found, you can usually check for power at the thermostat/OT switch. Sometimes it'll be visually obvious... as in a separate wire...

The thermostats/OT switches are often available at RV dealers, too, if you have to shop for one.

Thermostat was going to be my first guess, too. Check to see that it has power. If it doesn't, make sure the breaker isn't tripped and checked for broken wires between the breaker and the hot water heater. If it does have power, the thermostat is likely bad. They sometimes fail. Just went through this on a buddy's boat.
