The catamaran charter had ended, and I was sent to repair something ( I forget what).
The lady was in the middle of cleaning the boat before leaving, and she was on her cell phone with a friend.
The conversation went something like this:

"I'm done vacuuming the bedrooms, I've cleaned the bathrooms and kitchen, now I'm vacuuming the living room."

Re: Salon, saloon

Our boat was outfitted with a saloon, but the newer boatshow vessels seem to be equipped with salons according to the salespeople for some reason.

Re: Salon, saloon

I believe that saloon is correct ,a salon was a gathering of artistic and literary people usualy in someones home . Dont get mad at me but I think the Americans more conservative leanings only equate saloons with the western movie versions ,so dont like the word .

So, a cockpit with a table that swings out and some cup holders is a saloon, and if it has benches it's also a salon?

Re: Salon, saloon

The big yachts I work on almost universally use "salon" and typically have more than one, so they become "main salon", "bridge salon", "owner salon", etc.

But there is an occasional person that calls it "saloon". No one seems to judge them for it, even in that environment of critical judgement about every little thing.
