Sailors on the Mountains of East TN

Hello all

Sold my Ericson, moved away from florida to East TN, now just bought a Venture 22 and am brand new to mountain sailing life. We got lakes....

My biggest predicament is transporting the boat to my farm 20min away, no trailer. In florida I could rent or find someone with one but up here I'm a bit lost. I plan on keeping it on the hard at the farm to work on it so don't need to buy a trailer. any ideas how I can transport it? Any of you fine folks from East TN that want to connect?

I miss salvage stores and marinas....

You might try contacting area marinas to obtain a trailer of your own. I know frequently trailers are abandoned along with their boats, and the marinas would like to recoup something.
In Al. boat trailers aren't registered so that might make it easier.

There are two in Guntersville Al. that cater to sailboats:
Lake Guntersville Sailing Marina, 1 256 652 0916

North Alabama Sailing Marina, (256) 486-3311
You might find something suitable for very little money.

Its not a bad idea, only a few here so might just take a few calls.

If it's only a 20 min. trip, wouldn't it be easier to keep in at a marina that has a lift and just travel between the farm and the boat?

Otherwise, buying a trailer seems to the only reasonable idea.

Its not at a marina, its a business that needs it gone. Buying a trailer is the last option I'm looking at but still an option. Thanks

If you want to actually sail the boat, you're going to need a trailer. A well built trailer can be the cradle you have it in at home. Sort of the best of both worlds, plus the trailer would help you every single time you want to move the boat to the lake, or another lake, etc. Sorry, but I'm not understanding why you are opposed to a trailer.

If you're going to be a farmer, will you ever have time to sail?

Re: Sailors on the Mountains of East TN

Google tells me your boat weighs 1600 lbs, plus whatever gak is onboard, let's call it 2000 lbs. Plenty of logging and other industry in the East TN mountains. Certainly must be a flatbed with a crane or grapple out there that could pick up your boat and move it for you. Some temporary blocking would support it and I suspect the truck would already have enough load straps or chain and binders.

However, for what that would cost you could probably buy a trailer...

Im just anti-trailer!

Lol just kidding! I'm not opposed to a trailer, the boat needs work and is not sea worthy, i need to move it asap, and trailers that I can justify buying at the moment are not ready to move a boat. this is a project I got for cheap and dont want to throw a lot of money on it at the moment. have a baby on the way. just too good an oportunity to pass up and also im helping out a none for profit. long story short. I'm looking for the most cost effective way to move it now. with time and resources I will buy a good trailer that is designed for the boat that is in good shape.
